An online meditation timer

This meditation timer is a plain countdown with a gentle ending. Choose how long you want to sit, press Start timer and close your eyes: the display keeps the time so you do not have to. When the countdown reaches zero, the sound you picked plays, or nothing at all if you choose Off.

It works as a meditation timer online on a phone, tablet or computer, and it is free to use without an account. The page does not start by itself and does not play any music, so the room stays as quiet as you want it.

How to use the meditation timer

Pick a length with the quick buttons, or type your own hours, minutes and seconds. Choose a sound with the Sound menu and press Test sound once so you know the volume is right, then press Start timer.

  • Sound: Soft tones is the default for a gentle ending. Bell, Chime and Gong are also available, or switch the sound Off.
  • Screen: use Full screen for a dark, simple display, or let your device lock the screen. Keep this tab open, because a browser may delay alarms in background tabs.
  • Interruptions: Pause stops the countdown and Resume continues with the time that was left.

How long should a meditation session be?

There is no single right length. A short sitting you finish is better than a long one you abandon, so many people start with a few minutes and add time slowly. Use the buttons above for 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, or choose the length that fits the practice you follow.

Meditation timer lengths

Each length has its own page with the same alarm options:

Other timers for calm and focus

For work in focused blocks use the Pomodoro timer; for a timer that is quiet and visual use the sand timer.

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Get in touch

Does the meditation timer play music?

No. It plays one short ending sound that you choose (or none), so your practice stays quiet. Soft tones is the gentlest option.

Can I use this meditation timer without a bell?

Yes. Set the Sound menu to Off. The timer still shows when time is up, and you can use Full screen to see the time left from a distance.

Will the timer keep running if my screen locks?

The countdown is based on the clock, so it stays correct, but a locked phone may not play the sound on time. For a long sitting, keep the screen on and this tab open, or test your device first.

Is there a start bell or interval bell?

Not on this page. It counts down once and rings at the end. For repeating cycles, use the Pomodoro timer or the interval timer.

Will the alarm work if I leave this tab?

Keep the tab open. Switching to another tab is usually fine, but browsers can slow down pages in the background and may block sound that was never enabled. For the best chance of hearing the alarm, keep this page open and visible and press Test sound first. Closing the tab stops the alarm.

Reset this timer?

The countdown will stop.
