Why Columbus Day is on a Monday

The Uniform Holiday Bill, signed on June 28, 1968, moved four federal holidays to Mondays to create three-day weekends: Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day, Veterans Day and Columbus Day. Veterans Day later returned to November 11; Columbus Day stayed on a Monday.
