Where Halloween comes from
According to the Library of Congress, Halloween began with Samhain, a pre-Christian Celtic festival of the dead. Christian missionaries later placed the feast of All Saints, or All Hallows, on November 1 and All Souls’ Day on November 2. The evening before All Saints became All Hallows’ Eve – Halloween – as Christian and older customs mixed.
